Typical abilities of persons with SCI: Functional outcomes may vary by individual, depending on such factors as the level and completeness of the injury, neurologic recovery (or loss), associated medical complications, the amount of rehabilitation training, etc. The use of orthotics and assistive devices can sometimes facilitate the patient's functional abilities.
Typical disabilities: Often causes permanent changes in strength, sensation and other body functions below the site of the injury.
