Shake-a-Leg Miami

Shake-a-Leg Miami is a charity organization based in Coconut Grove, Florida, that uses water activities to empower and liberate at-risk adolescents and people with disabilities. Shake-a-Leg Miami has been giving people of all abilities the chance to enjoy sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other activities since 1990.

Goals and Objectives

Shake-a-Leg Miami aims to establish a welcoming atmosphere where people of all abilities can enjoy the water and learn new things. The group, which Harry Horgan founded, is of the opinion that the ocean presents countless opportunities for healing, self-improvement, and self-assurance.

Programs Provided

A range of programs tailored to meet diverse requirements are available from Shake-a-Leg Miami:

1. Adaptive Boating

A fundamental program called adaptive sailing enables people with disabilities to sail independently on sailboats that have been appropriately outfitted. As they gain confidence and collaboration skills, they acquire the ability to navigate Biscayne Bay.

2. Paddle boarding and Kayaking

The opportunity to explore the bay's tranquil waters is offered by these activities. Accessible gear guarantees that these events are safe for everyone to partake in. Paddle boarding and kayaking encourage physical fitness and a bond with the natural world.

3. Marine Science Education

Additionally, educational programs that teach participants about environmental protection and marine biology are provided by Shake-a-Leg Miami. These initiatives foster a greater understanding and respect for the sea and its ecosystems.

4. Youth Development

Shake-a-Leg Miami offers leadership development and mentoring to young people who are at-risk. These initiatives help youth make wise decisions and acquire life skills that will serve them well in the future.

Partnerships with Communities

Shake-a-Leg Miami works in conjunction with hospitals, schools, and other institutions to broaden its scope and offer all-encompassing assistance to its members. These alliances increase the organization's influence and fortify the community.

How You Can Help

There are several ways to support Shake-a-Leg Miami:

Offer assistance with events, sailing lessons, and administrative work. The success of the organization is largely dependent on its volunteers.

Donate: Fundraising efforts help maintain scholarships, equipment, and activities. Every contribution has an impact.

Attend Events: To support the cause and meet people who are passionate about having a good influence, take part in events such as fundraisers and regattas.

Shake-a-Leg Miami is a center of empowerment that provides at-risk adolescents and people with disabilities with life-changing experiences on the water. Through encouraging inclusivity, learning, and community involvement, Shake-a-Leg Miami is dismantling barriers and motivating individuals to realize their greatest potential.
