Four Star Wheelchair Accessible Hotel / Restaurant / Bar / Palapa / Beach Resort on 2.2 Acres

Built by by my friend, the late Quadriplegic American Veteran William Bussier and currently operated by his wonderful wife and son William II (also a wheelchair user from spina bifida), Freedom Shores is a gem for the disability community unparalleled anywhere in the world! My visit in 2009 was the best travel experience I have had since breaking my neck in 2003! My father traveled with me and absolutely loved it, (especially the fact he did not have to help me!) and is still planning to go back with my mother.

- Mark Felling, Broadened Horizons President

William Bussier, Sr. & His WifeTo people with disabilities, travel can be dangerous and a challenge, and yet we yearn for those adventures, the opportunity to be with our families and friends in new and exciting locales; to experience the richness of new cultures together and to build a tapestry of memories that surround us with their warmth when we go home.

Those yearnings drove Bill & Thelma to create a unique beach accessible Four-Star Resort in the little fishing village of Isla Aguada, Campeche on the Gulf side of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

No stranger to Mexico, Bill, a quadriplegic from a diving accident on Nov 3, 1961 while serving in the Marine Corps, lived in Cuernavaca, Mexico for several years where he met & married his beautiful wife of 48 years, Thelma.

They always dreamed of opening a place where those in wheelchairs could vacation, alone or with their families, in comfort in a resort which met all of their needs and with activities in which everyone could participate.

That dream came true for them….now, let us make it come true for you!

"If you are a quadriplegic, or have any other disability that requires you use a sling, do not get on that airplane until you have checked out Mark Felling's COMFORT Carrier SLING at: www.BroadenedHorizons.com/comfortcarrier.htm. I bought one and it is the answer to getting on and getting off an aircraft safely." --- William Senior, 2009

THE REALLY OLD CITIES!
Calakmul had a population that may have reached 60,000! Archaeologists have found remains of more than 6, 500 buildings! It competed for hundreds of years with neighboring Tikal (in Guatemala) for domination of the Mayan empire. They had friendly relations and they had fierce battles! It is located only about 30 km from the border with Guatemala on a road that they recently paved.
