M2 vs M1 Anchor
Generally, our recommendation is to go with the M1 unless it does not fit. Especially muddy bottoms in rivers, lakes, US Intercoastal, etc
M2 is DESIGNED TO FIT boats with bow sprits and bow pulpits that the M1 with a longer shank and rollbar simply won't fit.
After the release of the Mantus M2 Model, we often get the question: which one is better? Both Anchors have an amazing setting and resetting ability and both are excellent choices for a primary anchor, but each has its own small specific advantages. Both anchors roll over well in most bottom conditions and it is rare for a properly weighted anchor to end up upside down, nevertheless,
- M2 has a shorter shank and eliminating the rollbar provides a better fit for boats with bow pulpits with slotted anchor housing and bow sprits.
- M2 anchor is less likely to get plugged up with muddy weeds without the need for the roll bar
- M1 Anchor due to its rollbar is better at rolling over and holds better in really soft, silty, muddy bottoms. M1 Hoop acts like a scoop in the mud, improving holding power.
- M1 hoop might help prevent chain fouling by wrapping in circles around the shank if the shank tip or ears are not embedded in a harder bottom.
