Yes, you may still qualify for the charitable donations deduction without a donation receipt. However, there are certain specifications around the donation, including cash limits and type of donation.
If claiming a deduction for a charitable donation without a receipt, you can only include cash donations, not property donations, of less than $250. And, you must provide a bank record or a payroll-deduction record to claim the tax deduction.
The IRS considers each donation separately. It doesn’t matter whether the donation to one organization reaches the $250 limit.
How To Claim a Tax Deduction With Charitable Donations
If itemized deduction for all noncash gifts is more than $500, Individuals, partnerships, and corporations should use Form 8283 to report information about noncash charitable contributions when the amount of their deduction for all noncash item donations is more than $500.
If itemized deduction for a noncash gift is over $5000, an appraisal is likely needed.
