To better assist our customers Broadened Horizons has compiled a list of recommended mouse and keyboard assistive software.

This software is compatible with most user input devices.

Mouse Software:

X-Mouse Button Control  Allows you to set various keypresses, keypress combinations and shortcut functions to any mouse buttons. Download for FREE at Highrez.co.uk website.

Point-N-Click Virtual Mouse by Polital Enterprises LLC is a FREE stand-alone on-screen virtual mouse designed for anyone with a disability that makes it difficult or impossible to click a physical computer mouse. As long as they can move a mouse, trackball or other pointing device, they can send mouse clicks to virtually any Windows application or DOS application that can run within a window and even many that are full screen.

Mouse Tool 3.1 MouseTool clicks the mouse for you. Its basic operation is simple: it watches as you move the mouse, and when you pause, it clicks.
You also have many other options to control MouseTool's behavior:
  * You can use hotkeys as if they were mouse buttons, or to control MouseTool.  *  Smart Drag mode allows you to drag the mouse cursor without using hotkeys.  *  MouseTool is context-aware; it is constantly watching the window that   is under the mouse, so it can send the right click type   (left-, right-, double-, or drag) to any given window.

ClickAid Mouse Helper by Polital Enterprises LLC is is a FREE stand-alone on-screen mouse aid designed for anyone who has difficulty switching between mouse buttons or double clicking on a physical computer mouse. It will work with all mouse systems including head mouse and touch screen devices. ClickAid functions can be accessed by clicking on the form or optionally by using AutoSelect dwelling to enable the functions to be selected by hovering the mouse pointer over the buttons. 

Camera Mouse by Bosten College is a free program that allows you to control the mouse pointer on a Windows compuer just by moving your head.  Clicking can be done by making the mouse pointer dwell over a spot on the screen.

GimpGear LeftLock - GimpGear LeftLock allows a QuadMouse or Joystick Mouse user to quickly and efficiently click-and-drag, highlight, drag-and-drop, and drag-and-select using a 'down-click' on the QuadMouse left clicker joystick or the Green Dragbutton on the Joystick Mouse (or middle/third button of any mouse controller). This is the equivalent to clicking the left mouse button and holding it down on a standard mouse. Tap the left Red button on the Joystick Mouse to "release" (or 'left-click' on any mouse controller).

USB Overdrive for Mac OS X is a device driver for Mac OS X that handles any USB mouse / trackball / joystick / gamepad / media keyboard and any Bluetooth mouse from any manufacturer and lets you configure them either globally or on a per-application, per-device basis.  The USB Overdrive reads all kinds of wheels, buttons, switches and controls and assigns them to useful actions like clicking, typing, scrolling, launching, opening documents and so forth. It can easily handle several USB devices at once and can assign different settings to each one.  Note that the Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are not handled by the USB Overdrive to let Mac OS X implement its full multitouch support.

SteadyMouse  is free software designed by a couple of geeks to assist people with the hand tremors that commonly go along with Parkinson's disease, Multiple sclerosis, etc.

Keyboard Software:

Click-N-Type Virtual Keyboard is a FREE on-screen virtual keyboard designed to provide computer accessibility to anyone with a disability that prevents him or her from typing on a physical computer keyboard.  As long as the physically challenged person can control a mouse, trackball, touch screen or other pointing device, this adaptive software keyboard allows you to send keystrokes to virtually any Windows application or DOS application that can run within a window.

VirtualKeyboard for Mac is an on-screen keyboard that offers point-and-click typing using pointing devices such as a head pointer, mouse, graphic tablet, trackball, etc.

Dasher is a FREE information-efficient text-entry interface, driven by natural continuous pointing gestures. Dasher is a competitive text-entry system wherever a full-size keyboard cannot be used. Compatable with Windows, Mac, Android.

Dynamic Keyboard by CanAssist was developed for people who would like to type on a computer but do not have the fine motor control to use a regular keyboard or regular on-screen (full) keyboard. It is designed with large, easy-to-hit buttons, and large letters that are easy to see. These features are especially useful for people using less accurate devices, such as a head mouse or eye-tracking system to control their cursor.

Midas Touch is a free onscreen keyboard program for Windows 8, 7, Vista, or XP that is designed to be used with Camera Mouse or any other head-controlled access technology.

Staggered Speech is a free onscreen keyboard program for Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP that is designed to be sued with Camera Mouse, EagleEyes, or any other head-controlled or eye-controlled access technology.

Kindle for PC with Accessibility Plugin is a free application for your Windows PC. It provides the following accessibility features:

Zac Browser is a virtual playground for kids with Autism.

NaviGaze 2.0  Hands-Free Computer control enables the use of Windows-based computers and applications without a mouse, relying instead on head movement and eye-blinks to control the cursor. The user simply clicks on their eye, closes it, clicks again, and NaviGaze is ready to go. NaviGaze then uses static and dynamic correlation to track the feature and detect eye-blinks. The result: a hands-off approach to controlling your computer!

OneSwitch is a resource of fun ideas and 'assistive technology' aimed at moderate to severely learning/physically disabled people.

IGDA is the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is the largest non-profit membership organization in the world serving all individuals who create video games.

Game Accessibility is a website that is part of the Game Accessibility project, a research project that focuses on the accessibility of electronic games for gamers with disabilities.


Gaming:

As new games or software updates are released, they are effortlessly installed with a point and click.

JoyToKey is a keyboard emulator for joysticks.  It converts joystick input into keyboard input (and mouse input).  Use it when you want to control an application with joysticks that doesn't support joystick input. If you wish, you can control even Word, Excel, etc. with joysticks!
